Introduction to services
We offer a range of services across our churches, the majority of them taking place on Sundays. Check our calendar for details
8am - Holy Communion (traditional language) lasting about 45 minutes and including a short reflection on the readings set for the day. This service alternates between the two churches.
10am - The Sunday Service lasting around 50mins-1hr. The Sunday Service explores the day’s set readings, a theme or an issue. The Sunday Service is an eclectic mix of hymns and songs, reflections and creative activities.
10am – Communion at St Nicholas, Wickham (1st Sunday of the month) and St John the Baptist, Shedfield (2nd Sunday of the month) using Common Worship. On the 3rd Sunday there is a more informal communion at St Nicholas, Wickham, with a worship group. Services last around an hour to an hour and a quarter.
10am – Café Church consists of conversation and prayers at the Shedfield Study Centre next door to the church. Coffee and croissants are available before the service from 9.30. Our musicians really enjoy leading worship with a variety of hymns and contemporary songs.
6pm - Evensong On the second Sunday of each month there is either a said or sung evensong, alternating between the two churches. This follows the Book of Common Prayer in Traditional Language. It is quiet and reflective, lasting around 45-50 minutes.
6pm - Taize On the first Sunday of every month, alternating between churches, there is a quiet and reflective Taize service. It consists of sung chants, silence, stillness around a candle display with icons to help focus on and draw us deeper into Christ our Saviour. This service lasts around 45 minutes.
6pm - Chase Church A contemporary evening service (monthly). Every third Sunday evening in Waltham Chase Village Hall, we gather for a more contemporary service with songs, reflections, creative activities and inspirational media. The service starts with refreshments at 6pm and usually lasts around an hour and a half.
